Continuing from where I left off in the previous post, I researched into various styles, genres and sub genres of electronic music. I started off on a macro level trying to discover the style of electronic music that really fascinated me. My search started with house music and led me to jungle and finally UK Garage. I also discovered how this genre led to the birth of Grime and eventually Dubstep. My remix thus incorporates elements from across these genres.

I listened to a playlist called 'UK Garage Essentials' on Apple Music and it had some of the best UK Garage tracks ever. There was so much variation between the tracks when it came to how the songs were structured, but still I could understand what made them fall into the same genre. Some of the artists that inspired me were MJ Cole, So Solid Crew, Artful Dodger, Craig David and Sweet Female Attitude.

how you have gone about creating the track, including specific features in the software that you have used

I was looking for a hook for the song. That's where I started. I wanted to build around the hook. I was really inspired from the Sweet Female Attitude remix of Flowers and I wanted the 'choppy' 'glitchy' feel of the intro from the track to be a part of my remix. I created a glitchy hook using vocal chops from the chorus of the track but I ended up trashing the idea and starting fresh to finally create a hook by reversing certain sections of the vocals.

I created organ sound using operator. It was a great learn for me. A Youtube channel named Chris Joseph helped me with the synthesis. In the process to creating this track I used MIDI effect to fix the velocity to 127 (organ as an instrument not being sensitive to velocity).

Also, I doubled up the tempo of the original track to better suit the style of my remix. I used MIDI grooves to quantize the vocal transients. Also, I reversed the cymbals extracted from the overheads stem to create fades for smooth transition between different sections. I used subtractive synthesis using Analog to create a Chicago Bassline. It was another great learn from an incredible Youtube channel called Point Blank Music School.

The idea of remixing this particular track came from it's mix that i have been working on for my friend, who is an incredible artist, called Goyell Saab aka Shubham Goyal. He is extremely excited about the remix. But before the remix is released, both of us are looking forward to the release of the original track. From the feedback that I have received from him, he seems extremely happy with the work. He loves my take on the hook of the track.

Getting this remix together was quite a challenge for me because I have not been into electronica music as a listener. I sure grew up listening to pop tracks on radio but that's all about it. I have been a fan of rock and metal music all my life. This venture into the realm of electronic music felt equally exciting and fresh. I'm really excited about the project.

Before I release my remix of the track, I need to wait for the original track to be released. The original should be set for its release in a week's time and I should be good to release my remix anytime after that. I'll update this page with my remix as soon as I get permission from the artist. Till then, stay tuned!
